Free Gmail Email Tracker with Geolocation — No Signature, No Branding
Track who opens your emails, where they opened them (city + country), and what device they used — without adding any signature to your messages.
GeoMail Tracker is a free Chrome and Edge extension that tracks email opens in Gmail with geolocation (city + country), device detection, and real-time desktop notifications. Unlike Mailtrack, Mailtag, and Geotrack, the free plan does not add any "sent with..." signature to your outgoing emails. Pro is $0.99/month — about one-tenth the price of Mailtag ($9.99/mo).
Built for outbound sales reps, freelancers, recruiters, and foreign-trade professionals who need to know if and when prospects read their emails — without revealing they're being tracked.
The free plan supports 100 tracked emails/month with full geolocation, device detection, real-time notifications, and 30-day history. Pro unlocks unlimited tracking, permanent history, and CSV export.
How GeoMail Tracker Works
Install and connect Gmail (one-click OAuth)
Add the extension from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons. Sign in once with your Google account — we only request the minimum scopes needed.
Compose your email — tracking is on by default
A small "Track" toggle appears next to the Send button. Toggle off if you don't want to track a specific email. Otherwise just hit send as you normally would.
Get a desktop notification the moment it's opened
You'll see who opened it, the city + country they opened it from, and the device (desktop, mobile, tablet) — usually within 60 seconds.
What Makes GeoMail Tracker Different
No "sent with..." signature, ever
Mailtrack, Mailtag, and Geotrack all stamp a branded footer on free emails. We don't — not on Free, not on Pro. Your emails look exactly like before.
Real-time geolocation (free)
City, country, region, ASN, and timezone — resolved through Cloudflare's GeoIP database the moment the pixel is requested.
Device + OS detection
Know whether the recipient opened on iPhone, Android phone, Mac, Windows, or in a webmail tab. Useful for choosing the right follow-up channel.
Free desktop notifications
Real-time Chrome notifications within ~60 seconds of every open. Mailtrack and Geotrack lock this behind paid plans.
Multi-recipient attribution
Send to several recipients in one email and we attribute each open back to the right person via image-proxy fingerprinting (Gmail / QQ / Outlook).
Pro at $0.99/month
About one-tenth the price of Mailtag and well below Mailtrack's paid tiers. Yearly $7.99 = ~$0.67/mo. CSV export and unlimited tracking included.
Geolocation Email Tracking — How It Works
When the recipient opens your email, GeoMail Tracker's invisible 1×1 tracking pixel pings a Cloudflare Workers endpoint, which uses Cloudflare's built-in GeoIP database to determine the open's city, country, ASN, and timezone — accurate to the city level for ~85% of opens (less accurate when the recipient is on mobile data, corporate VPN, or behind Apple Mail Privacy Protection).
The data is stored against your tracking ID and pushed to your Chrome desktop notification within 60 seconds of the open. Geolocation is included on the Free plan with no upgrade required.
If the recipient uses Gmail, the open is routed through Google Image Proxy — in that case the location shows as a Google datacenter (e.g., "The Dalles, US"), and the row is labelled "Gmail proxy" so you know it represents a delivered + previewed email rather than the recipient's true geolocation. Same for QQ Mail (labelled "QQ Mail proxy"). For real opens that bypass the proxy, you see the recipient's actual city.

Who Uses GeoMail Tracker
- Outbound sales reps & BDRs: Time follow-ups based on real opens. Knowing your prospect just opened your proposal — from their office in San Francisco — tells you it's a good moment to call.
- Freelancers & consultants: Confirm that your scoping doc reached the client. See whether they're reading it on their laptop in the office or on their phone over the weekend.
- Foreign-trade & export reps: Track whether overseas buyers opened your quotation. Geolocation shows whether they're at the listed company address or traveling.
- Recruiters: Verify the candidate received your offer email. The device and city often reveal more than a polite "thanks, will review."
- Mailtrack free users: Most users move to GeoMail Tracker because they're tired of the "sent with Mailtrack" signature exposing tracking to recipients.

Privacy & How Tracking Works
GeoMail Tracker uses a single 1×1 tracking pixel embedded in the email body — the same approach used by Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce, and every major email-marketing platform. It does not read or modify your email content.
Recipient IP addresses are hashed (SHA-256) before storage; we never expose raw IPs in the UI. We only use Cloudflare's pre-existing GeoIP lookup to derive the city, country, ASN, and timezone, which is what gets shown to you.
Tracking pixels are a long-standing industry practice but their legality and ethics depend on jurisdiction. In the EU we recommend disclosing tracking in your email signature or company privacy policy when contacting recipients (GDPR legitimate-interest basis). Read our full privacy policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1 — Does GeoMail Tracker add a signature to my emails?
No. Unlike Mailtrack, Mailtag, and Geotrack — which all add a "sent with..." signature on their free plans — GeoMail Tracker adds zero signature, zero watermark, and zero footer on both Free and Pro plans. Tracking is done via an invisible 1×1 pixel embedded in the email body, completely hidden from your recipient.
Q2 — How do I track email opens in Gmail for free?
Install GeoMail Tracker from the Chrome Web Store, sign in with your Google account, and compose an email as you normally would in Gmail. Tracking is enabled by default — a small "Track: ON" toggle appears next to the Send button. When the recipient opens your email, you'll get a desktop notification within 60 seconds. Free plan includes 100 tracked emails per month.
Q3 — Can I see the city and country where my email was opened?
Yes. Every open event includes the recipient's city, country, ASN (network provider), and timezone, derived from Cloudflare's GeoIP database. This information is shown in the extension popup and the desktop notification. Geolocation is included on the Free plan.
Q4 — Will I get a notification when my email is opened?
Yes — GeoMail Tracker sends a real-time Chrome desktop notification within 60 seconds of each open, including who opened it, where (city/country), and on what device. This is a Pro-only feature in Mailtrack and Geotrack; in GeoMail Tracker it's free.
Q5 — Does it show the recipient's device and IP?
Yes for device — desktop, mobile, or tablet, plus operating system (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android) and email client where detectable. Raw IP addresses are not exposed in the UI for privacy reasons; we only show the geolocation derived from the IP (city, country, ASN).
Q6 — How much does Pro cost and what do I get?
Pro is $0.99/month or $7.99/year (~$0.67/month effective). Pro unlocks unlimited tracked emails (vs 100/month on Free), permanent tracking history (vs 30 days), CSV export, and priority support.
Q7 — Is it legal or ethical to track email opens?
Email open tracking via tracking pixels is a standard, widely-used practice (Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce, and every major email marketing platform use it). Legality depends on your jurisdiction — in the EU, GDPR requires a legitimate interest basis; in the US it is generally permitted. We recommend disclosing tracking in your email signature or company privacy policy when contacting EU recipients.
Q8 — How accurate is the geolocation?
City-level accuracy is around 85% based on Cloudflare's GeoIP database. Accuracy drops when the recipient is on a corporate VPN, mobile data with carrier-grade NAT, or behind a privacy proxy (e.g., Apple Mail Privacy Protection). Country-level accuracy is ~99%. For privacy-protected opens, you'll see "Open detected" without geo data.
Q9 — Is there a built-in read receipt in Gmail?
No. Gmail's built-in read receipts are only available on Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans, and require the recipient to manually approve the receipt. GeoMail Tracker provides automatic, transparent open tracking with geolocation and device info, works on any Gmail account (including free personal accounts), and doesn't require recipient action.
Q10 — Can I export tracking data to CSV?
CSV export is a Pro feature. Pro users can export their full tracking history (tracked email subject, recipient, first open time, total opens, geolocation, device) as a CSV file from the Options page.
